Poker is a game of skill and strategy. As you may have read in many a poker blog, poker has a bunch of variants, these variants differ from each other in terms of the distribution of cards, how they are dealt and how different hands are being formed. In some of the poker games, high as well as a low hand might win at the same time whereas in others only a higher hand will win.

Most of these games are played with a deck of 52 cards (which also a standard deck). A standard deck contains 52 cards in total with 13 cards of 4 different suits which are Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts and Spades.

The basic terms that you should know before you start to play poker are:

Small Blind: It is the forced amount that the player sitting left to the dealer has to put while participating in a game. It is half the amount of the big blind.
Big Blind: It is the forced bet posted by the player who is sitting left to the player placing the small blind. The big bind is twice the small blind and the minimum bet that everyone needs to put to play in that round.
Dealer: A dealer button represents a player who is in the dealer position; the dealer button rotates in a clockwise direction. Once a hand is completed the dealer button will change its position thus changing the big and the small blinds posted by the player.
Check: Incase there are no bets placed on the table, a player in absence of a bet may choose to pass the turn to other players by saying check or by knocking on the table twice (in terms of a live table)
Call: It is the amount that one places/ has to place to match the bet on the table and to continue to play in the particular hand.
Raise: When you increase the amount of the bet that has already been placed on the table then it is called as raise. In this case the other players need to call your amount in order to stay in the game.
Fold: If a player chooses not to continue to take part in a hand the player folds and his cards are returned to the dealer. Once the player has folded his cards he can no longer take part in the game further.
Flop: The “Flop” is the name for the first three cards dealt, face-up on the board after the first round of betting.
Turn: “Turn” is the name for the fourth card dealt, face-up on the board after the second round of betting.
River: “River” is the Fifth and the final card dealt, face-up on the board after the third round of betting.

In a game of Texas Hold’em Poker the first round of betting begins with a forced bet by two players followed by other players who have an option to call, raise or fold if they don’t feel like playing in these games. All the money from a hand goes into a common pot and once the round of betting is over the flop appears followed by two rounds of betting. After each round of betting, cards will open up at the table. After the 1st round of betting 3 cards open up which is called ‘flop’ and then one card opens up at the table called the ‘Turn’ followed by the ‘River’ in which the last card opens up at the table.

In this day and age a lot of stuff we learn is through videos. Individuals from all over the globe view videos to learn different things. A large number of enthusiasts, who want to learn lots of different things go through videos and try to learn from it. Whether it is playing a guitar that you want to learn or maybe even the procedure to format your computer hard drive, the best place to learn is through videos that are easily found on the internet. Some of us are very interested in learning the game of poker but due to a variety of reasons are not able to learn it from a poker blog or atricles. Some of us do not have time to reading extensive literature about poker or poker books etc; someone else might not find the right articles that they are looking for.

There are a lot of website on the internet which have good poker videos, these videos are uploaded to provide the players with a better way of understanding the way the game of poker is played.
Every now and then video lessons are posted by the top poker pro’s to help you better in not just understanding this game but also to raise the level of your game.

With the help of poker videos a you can directly learn from a poker pro, you can know the strategies used by them, you can take poker tips from them and if you are a good student then one day you can accompany them for a game of poker.

Some of the videos available on YouTube are very informative and helpful for people who want to learn poker.

One such video is of John Cladwell who is one of the better known people in this industry. John has a series of 8 videos through which he tries to teach you different strategies and methods through which you can benefit on a poker table.

In his first video of the series John talks about your odds and the keys to positioning on a poker table. How you can win from being at different positions at the tables, the strategies that should be implemented at those stages and the game play that should be displayed by you.

Along the same line there is such a video is posted by Daniel Negreanu that instructs you on different methods you can employ at Limit as well as a No Limit tables, but one really awesome video that I would suggest you should have a look at is the ‘bluffing’ lesson by him. A good number of us who have played poker know what bluffing is and might have even bluffed a lot of times while playing poker but the strategy of bluffing might even go haywire if you bluff the wrong player. This video teaches you about who to bluff, how and when to bluff. Daniel fairly in this video puts forth a mixed bag of players and their reactions to any bets or raises and how would they take you on in such situations.

These happen to be just a few videos among a whole lot accessible online, so if you are keen on learning and want to develop as a poker player then this is your best shot.

International Game Technology (IGT), who is the Nevada-based slot machine giant, has taken its initials into the world of online gaming last week. IGT has just announced the $115 million acquisition of Swedish gaming company Entraction Holding AB, approximately to operate as the 12th largest online poker network. As per the latest Casino City Times report there are more than around 4 million registered gamblers on Entraction, which has partnerships with more than 60 operators. Entraction’s network also offers casino games, bingo, and sports betting. It generated $56 million in revenue in 2010.

According to the CEO of IGT, Patti Hart “The addition of Entraction advances IGT’s position in legalized interactive gaming markets.” He continued mentioning, “It strengthens our interactive portfolio by adding poker, bingo, casino and sports betting.”

Before last Thursday’s announcement, IGT did not own an online poker platform, though for several years it had been quietly discussing whether to buy or build one. Wall Street analysts are framing the timing of IGT’s purchase as a vote of confidence that online gaming will soon be regulated in the U.S. “This deal is essentially a bet on the U.S. market opening up,” Roth Capital Partners gaming analyst Todd Eilers told Casino City Times. “If it does, this will likely turn out to be a very good deal.”

Finally, JP Morgan analyst Joe Greff described those sentiments, saying “Given the conned evolution of online gaming internationally and the push for legalization in the United States, we believe the acquisition makes sense. It allows IGT to immediately grow its position in the market and get a solid footprint abroad, while also setting it up for potential longer-term gains domestically.” Let us wait and watch how much IGT is gonna make from this acquisition and online poker and online gaming market.

AGA – The American Gaming Association is pushing for online poker in the state and asked Congress to pass legislation that would regulate online poker in the United States, according to the latest media reports.

The American Gaming Association corresponds to the casino industry in the United States and the AGA’s efforts for regulation points to the fact that United States gaming interests would like to enter the online poker market. The AGA held a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday. The event was headed by AGA CEO Frank Fahrenkopf. Also appearing were Keith Smith, president of Boyd Gaming; Gordon Kanofsky, CEO of Ameristar Casinos; and Virginia McDowell, president of Isle of Capri Casinos.

“The millions of American who are playing poker online deserve to know they are playing safely with law-abiding operators,” Fahrenkopf said during a news conference, according to a story by The Associated Press.

The story went on to say that gaming leaders would be meeting with congressmen and White House officials on the subject of regulation of online poker in the coming days.

The lobbying effort comes less than a month after the U.S. Department of Justice seized the domains of PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, Absolute Poker and UB.com, and issued indictments for some of their top executives. The DoJ accused those indicted of money laundering and bank fraud.

There is right now a bill in Congress named HR 1174 under the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act that is actually similar to the past legislation that had not passed. A bill that tried to shape out something just for online poker in U.S., which was introduced by Sen but there was no progress in Congress regarding this. However, the AGA may be pushing for a new piece of legislation that differs from both of those bills.

Online Poker has noticed 22% drop in traffic after online poker shutdown or say online poker crash on April 15th, 2011, when the Department Of Justice went after PokerStars, Full Tilt and Absolute Poker’s US operations effectively putting an end to online poker stateside.

After around two weeks PokerScout have now released an online poker traffic report comparing the weekend before ‘Black Friday’ to the two subsequent weekends. The results reveal a global turn down in online poker cash players of 22%.

Breaking the figures down, PokerStars has seen its cash game players tail off by a massive 28% overall and Full Tilt is currently down 35% while the CEREUS Network, which includes both Absolute Poker and UB have suffered a massive. 65% decline in cash game players over two weekends.

A popular misconception has been that the increase in players moving over to poker rooms still accepting American players may have helped to balance the losses of the big three absent sites.

Considering Merge Gaming Network traffic is up by 61%, Bodog up by 32% and the Cake Poker Network is up 30% it is easy to understand how this misconception could occur. However, PokerScout’s numbers show that whereas 15,831 cash game players left the “Big Three” poker sites, just 950 additional cash player were recorded playing on US-friendly poker rooms over the past two weeks.

A quick glance at PokerScout’s numbers at the time of writing will help you to fully appreciate how completely PokerStars and Full Tilt dominated the online poker market. Currently there are 24,211 cash players playing on PokerStars and 13,215 at Full Tilt, whereas the third most popular site is iPoker with 4,423 while a lowly fourth is Ongame on just 2,908.

With millions of US players now unable to play poker online and a further 50,000+ US pros currently out of a job, the prospects for online poker in America have never been this bleak. As Poker Players Alliance executive director John Pappas explains: “The next month is going to be our month to either seize or lose. If we want our game back the PPA and PPA members, and the poker community at large, really needs to activate.”

Concluding PPA have recently launched a Take Action page enabling online poker protesters to post comments to President Obama, Congress and the Department of Justice sites suggesting their views for online poker practices. As per the reports there they have already received over 70,000 e-mails and letters on online poker related queries or complaints.

Feds has targeted online gambling in the United States with the event when FBI seized three of the largest offshore online poker websites, citing a 2006 law that makes it illegal to process financial transactions related to online gaming.

Last Friday has turned out as a crackdown for online poker & as per the report by the Associated Press, the federal agents has refrained gamblers from accessing the foreign-operated websites, “which are accused of tricking and bribing banks into processing billions of dollars in illegal profits.” The AP noted that in addition to blocking recreational gamblers, the move prevents those who make a living playing online poker, many with substantial sums banked on the sites, from plying their trade or even accessing their winnings.

“It just cut the head off of everything,” Las Vegas poker pro Robert Fellner told the AP. The 27-year-old gambler said he has an estimated $250,000 bankrolled on PokerStars.com, one of the sites shut down by the feds. “It’s scary,” said Fellner.

Including PokerStars, the FBI shut down the two other biggest online poker websites accessed by gamblers in the United States, FullTiltPoker.com and AbsolutePoker.com. Visitors to the websites now see an official notice explaining that the domains have been seized by the FBI and warning that “conducting, financing, managing, supervising, directing, or owning all or part of an illegal gambling business is a federal crime.”

The warning also puts online gamers on notice with this message: “For persons engaged in the business of wagering or betting, it is also a federal crime to knowingly accept, in connection with the participation of another person in unlawful Internet gambling, credit, electronic fund transfers, or checks.”

The warning implies that, although no action has been taken against illegal gambling in the five years since the 2006 law was enacted, online poker players and their hosts have been making money unlawfully the whole time and now it is time to pay up. While federal authorities have said that players with assets frozen with the blocked sites will be able to get their money back, no one is quite sure when that will be.

What is certain is that, with the indictments of nearly a dozen bankers and gambling site operators in the takedown, the online poker industry, estimated to generate $6 billion annually, is in jeopardy, along with other gambling venues such as televised poker tournaments, which have helped to fuel the craze in poker nationwide.

The AP reported that, according to one agent who represents several high-stakes professional poker players, owners of the Full Tilt and PokerStars websites have spent an estimated $200 million per year on marketing, “directly or indirectly funding almost all poker-related television shows, news websites, magazines, and several live tournaments.” The agent said that the two sites alone “were wholly responsible for the poker economy and its growth over the last five years.”

Following the shutdowns, online poker traffic worldwide dropped 22 percent, with the average number of individuals playing online poker for real money dropping by between 15,000 and 20,000 participants in the four days after the bust.

In announcing the indictments, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said those charged “concocted an elaborate criminal fraud scheme, alternately tricking some U.S. banks and effectively bribing others to assure the continued flow of billions in illegal gambling profits.” Bharara said that foreign firms doing business in the United States “are not free to flout the laws they don’t like simply because they can’t bear to be parted from their profits.” The federal case seeks an estimated $3 billion in penalties and alleged gambling proceeds from scores of bank accounts in 14 countries.

Among those indicted by federal prosecutors was Bradley Franzen, a “payment processor” who federal agents said helped to create “fake companies and websites that purported to sell such items as golf balls and jewelry to disguise payments and lied to banks about the transactions,” reported Reuters News Service.

Also indicted was John Campos, a vice chairman at SunFirst Bank in St. George, Utah, who prosecutors said “agreed to process gambling transactions in return for letting co-defendant Chad Elie and an associate invest $10 million in SunFirst, giving them a more than 30-percent stake in the privately-held bank,” continued Reuters. Elie was also charged in the fraud scheme.

Proponents of online gaming say the poker sites have operated for years with no discernable harm to anyone. In fact, the AP noted that while there aren’t many studies on the correlation between online gaming and gambling addictions, “a Harvard Medical School study from 2009 said most people who gamble online do so moderately.”

With this news obviously opponents of online poker market were understandably relieved. We know compulsive gamblers and teenagers can’t be screened at the door. A well-known pro-family organization, Focus on the Family, has for years pointed out the devastation gambling can cause to both individuals and families. The group’s analyst for gambling research, Chad Hills, applauded the indictments, calling them long overdue. “Foreign gambling operations are not supposed to be soliciting U.S. gamblers,” he said, “and yet they’ve been mocking U.S. law. This shows them that the FBI and the Department of Justice mean business. This is going to send a message to other online gambling sites, and I am extremely excited to see this happen.”

Just about 2 years ago Las Vegas billionaire and casino mogul Steve Wynn had met Isai Scheinberg for the first time. Scheinberg is the founder of PokerStars; the biggest online gaming firm. Scheinberg usually avoids traveling to U.S., but the meeting was on Wynn’s boat while it was anchored in the Mediterranean Sea. Over the lunch for three long hours, Scheinberg tried to persuade Wynn for a joint venture. According to Scheinberg the two of them should work together to regulate online poker in the U.S.

It was not an easy thing to do. For years, Wynn had opposed online gaming and also he is not an active user of technology. He thought that it would be not easy to regulate online poker. “If the Internet people got in trouble it would bring the wrath of the government down on us in the live gaming community out here in Las Vegas,” Wynn had brought this to mind thinking prior to the meeting. “I didn’t see the business opportunity, I just saw problems.”

During their lunch Wynn found Scheinberg to be quiet and reserved, carefully precise with his language and paying close attention to detail. Still, Wynn didn’t take the meeting too seriously. He did, however, take up Scheinberg’s offer to learn more in the ensuing months about how PokerStars conducted business. Wynn says what he learned shocked him, especially the company’s ability to identify any abnormal activity on its web site and stop it. “I only had misconceptions, I had no idea on a number of issues,” says Wynn. “They are highly regulated [in Europe] and I found out they had 1,300 employees and the average salary is $110,000 because they are so intellectual in the design of the programs. One of my concerns was about young people playing. It turns out they have more control about young people playing than we do.”

But the real turning point for Wynn came last year when Nevada Senator Harry Reid called Wynn to signal he was changing his mind about online poker. Wynn had no idea who put the issue before Reid, but he realized Reid was serious. Wynn says Reid told him: “Steve there are millions of people playing poker and it’s as American as apple pie. I want my office to look into this and see if we can regulate it.”

Scheinberg, meanwhile, continued to engage Wynn and the two met again on Wynn’s boat last year. This time the boat was anchored off the Bahamas and Wynn was taking Scheinberg’s proposals very seriously. During their discussions, Wynn asked Scheinberg why he was eager to change the status-quo in the American market. After all, PokerStars is making massive profits in the unregulated U.S. market, where it only has one serious competitor, Full Tilt Poker. Wynn remembers Scheinberg telling him: “Steve, in the American market we have so many customers. It ought to be done right, and I don’t want to look over my shoulder at this point of my life.”

Wynn eventually agreed to work with Scheinberg toward establishing a joint venture that would be split 50-50, PokerStarsWynn.com, which was announced in March. Wynn says there is a written contract that obligates him to be responsible for the joint venture’s regulatory compliance if online poker becomes regulated in the U.S. For now PokerStars is getting a powerful ally who has been close friends with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for some 40 years.

Wynn has clearly educated himself about the grey legal environment facing online poker firms like PokerStars. He brushes off the fact that his new strategic partner operates in the U.S. while the Justice Department takes the position that facilitating for-money online poker violates U.S. law. “In the United States of America the Justice Department has an opinion but several states have ruled and courts have agreed that poker is a game of skill, it’s not gambling. PokerStars rests their argument on that,” says Wynn. “I say there is a bit of sophistry here clearly. What difference does it make what PokerStars or the Justice Department says? The point is millions of people are playing poker and they are going to continue to play poker legally or illegally.” To read part of my interview with Steve Wynn please see this.

Till now, Wynn doesn’t feel of getting the approval on online poker betting easily from the Republican-controlled House of Representatives. “I don’t have any idea at this point,” Wynn said. “I know that as a nonbeliever I was convinced by the logic of the argument. And when I learn something and change my mind I may have the naïve notion that other people might be enlightened by the facts themselves. But that doesn’t mean I am right, especially in Washington.”

Last week I wrote about what I learned when I inspired four Rush Poker to try to earn 500 Full Tilt Points in a single day. And while the overall lesson is important, I also required looking closer at my game and seeing what I could about the leaks in my game and areas for development. And since I failed, there was a lot for me to digest. Here are the top 10 lessons I learned from this session.

10. Quote always worked in the long term

When I play poker – whether online or live – 200 hands is a long session. More than 200 hands, you can get hit with a tire, or you can be fairly short death. But eventually, over time, you get good hands as often as you statistically likely to get. During my marathon session, I won 9288 hands. The probability of being dealt pouch aces (and kings, queens, or other specific pocket pair) 1 / 220th in a perfect world, I would have treated each pair served 42 times. I’ve been treated 40 times, kings and queens 35 times 44 times. It’s really close to what it should have been.

9. The best hand in the stand is a pair of aces

Well, no surprise here, but this number surprised me. I went 40-of-40 with aces. I did not lose a single hand with them. Of course, I gained a lot of small boats, but I won some big, too. Seven of the hands that I won with the ace I deduct more than 10 big blinds.

8. Ace-jack isn’t as good as it looks

I was dealt ace-jack (both the suited and unsuited variety) 125 times. I lost 341 big blinds in those hands. I won a little less than half of the hands I played when I was dealt ace-jack, but well over half of those wins amounted to less than five big blinds. Meanwhile, I spewed five or more big blinds 24 times.

7. I need to tighten my button range

The button is supposed to be the most powerful position in Holder. But other than the blinds, the button was my worst position. I raised almost 15 percent of the time from the button, but only won money when I saw the flop 40 percent of the time. My only profitable positions were the cutoff and the hijack. The button raise is perhaps a little too obvious these days.

6. You can, however, still steals from the button

Even though I lost money on the button, I was a big winner when I had a chance to steal and raised. Of the 252 times I made the attempt, I won nearly 83 percent of the time and netted nearly one big blind per attempt. And it would have been much more, had my lone “steal” attempt with pocket kings not run into a two outer on the river.

5. A pair at showdown just isn’t that great

I went to showdown with just a pair 190 times, and won just 64 of those hands. It’s no wonder I lost the most money holding a measly pair.

4. Pocket pairs, however, are pretty darn good

I was profitable with every pocket pair except eights and sevens. In fact, pocket sixes were my second-most profitable hand, most likely because they’re so easy to play. I won more than 20 big blinds with pocket sixes seven of the 49 times it was dealt to me. I made a set on the flop on five of those hands, improved to a full house three times and made quads once. Meanwhile, I only lost 10 or more big blinds with pocket sixes twice, including once when I flopped an open-ended straight draw against an opponent who held pocket jacks.

3. I’m a wuss against a three-bet

I folded my pre-flop raise 64 percent of the time when someone three-bet me. I don’t know what is typical for a winning player, but this seems pretty high. The easiest way to remedy this is to tighten up my pre-flop raises, so when someone does three-bet me, I have the type of hand that can withstand that three bet and four-bet to put the decision back on them.

2. Suited connectors are not my friend

I didn’t play suited connectors very well at all during my Rush Poker session, especially bigger suited connectors. I lost nearly four big blinds per hand playing queen-jack, jack-10 and 10-9 suited. Most of my big losses with these hands came when I hit a pair or a draw on the flop and got all the money in, only to find myself facing an over pair. I should be playing suited connectors looking to make a big hand, not check-raising all in with top pair while holding 10-9.

1. Poker Tracker is worth the money

All statistics produced by this article are available for me because I downloaded Poker Tracker before playing the session. I tried once before Poker Tracker in an old computer for several years, but this is the first time you use the software for something like a statistically significant number of hands. The program has taught me a lot about how to change to improve my game in one day, and I’m sure if you should try to accumulate 500 FTPs again, my performance will be much higher so I learned looking more closely at the aggregate by the software.

Two of the major names in online poker battle in a big game the week before “Big Game” of the National Football League. Swedish online poker for Viktor Isildur1 Dan Blom is “jungleman12″ Cates. Last year, Cates took all the online poker pros with earnings of over $ 5 million.

The two online poker veterans will play their heads-up matches on the PokerStars.com site starting at 5:30pm EST. The matches will consist of 2,500 hands of no-limit Texas Holdem, played at four tables simultaneously, with the blinds at $50 and $100. Each player will bring $150,000 to the game; the player with the most money after 2,500 hands will be declared the winner.

Both Blom and Cates are familiar with playing high-stakes heads-up matches. Cates won over US$819,000 against online pro Tom “durrr” Dwan when the two met on Full Tilt Poker, PokerStars’ biggest rival in the online poker marketplace. Cates, who goes by “w00ki3z” on PokerStars, also had a run-in with Blom earlier this week, where he put the Swede on tilt.

Blom has staged other “SuperStar Showdown” events since moving from Full Tilt to PokerStars. He took on Isaac Haxton, a young pro from New York, and lost US$40,000. He also had a series of heads-up hands against Anthony “Tony G” Guoga, a loud-mouthed Australian poker veteran, and took the Aussie down for US$44,000.

The hype in the world of online poker game adjoining the heads-up can almost rival that of “Big Game” in Dallas, Texas, next weekend. Although the winner will not receive a silver trophy and gold bracelet, the best man deserved recognition as one of the best poker pros in the high stakes world.

Harry Reid’s efforts to push the bill through the lame duck Congress meeting online poker seems to be coming soon, which is a kind of good news for Atlantic City. It ‘widely speculated that Reid, D-Nev. Bill was moving out of Nevada casinos to get a foot on the Games web.
His bill would only create a casino business to offer online poker. While the AC is definitely established casino, the largest player in the city, the owner of Caesars Entertainment, Harrah’s Resort, Caesars, Showboat and Bally’s seems to want to Nevada at the base of the Internet.

However the federal ban shakes out remembers there is also a bill sponsored by Congressman Barney Frank to legalize Internet games New Jersey, for now, stays in the lead with its efforts to approve Intra-state Internet gambling, open to state residents through A.C. Casinos. In fact the New Jersey bill is in front of the state Assembly budget committee today.

Like a similar measure calling for a referendum to allow sports betting in the state, which will now go before voters, part of the idea of the bill is to be ready and even up and running when federal restrictions are lifted.

However, there are many laws in many different places, but it seems that online games will eventually lead you to the CA in any way. Indeed, we have not a poker operator Monday this week because we were waiting for news on this subject. So call this poker news Thursday.

In 2006, gambling on the Internet, especially online poker, it seemed he had forever changed passing through the Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in 2006, the United States. The UIGEA has been adopted in U.S. law and makes it illegal for U.S. banks and financial institutions to process payments to U.S. citizens. While a handful of online poker sites rebels has continued to offer their services to U.S. customers, the vast majority did all they could do that is to act within the law and prevent U.S. players .

This, of course, had a huge hit in effect throughout the world of online poker, some of the smaller sites and networks have gone out of business, some of whom were forced to merge with other companies, but in the end was the customer, who has lost out to revenue decreased from the base of massive American players mined sites operating budget, which in turn means less money for promotions and bonuses.

Congress, Barney Frank has been trying to internet gambling legalized, licensed, regulated and taxed in the United States, and his bill HR-2267: Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act provided the framework for how to do it. Of this writing, HR 2267 has passed, and so the bill is still waiting to be a law which is not certain date, when he felt at home.

However, a law could be passed that will licence, regulate and legalise online poker within the next week! Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has been working behind the scenes to get the Internet Poker Act signed into law and it could happen as early as next week. Reid’s act was meant to be made public by the end of this week but someone leaked the document to the Las Vegas Review Journal and they published it in its entirety.

The bill is a real mixed bag with both some very good points and some horrifically bad ones, especially if you are a professional poker player in the US. The bill, which looks as if it will be attached to the back of another bill that is almost guaranteed to be signed into law (much like the UIGEA was with the SAFE Port Act), shows that online poker sites would have to obtain a licence and that by doing s they would pay 20% tax on all deposits made by players each month. This would mean that even the sites that have gone against the UIGEA would be allowed to offer their services to American clients.

There is a big but though and that is that these sites would have to have a “reboot” period of no less than 15 months where they simply could not offer services to American customers. This would mean that many online poker professionals currently based in the United States of America would have to either be out of a job for 15 months or move to another country entirely! The move is meant to offer sites a level playing field as those who have American facing operation currently have a huge advantage over those who do not.

John Pappas, President of the Poker Players, said 15 months during the blackout, “It makes no sense for the player or the industry, “said Pappas. “I do not know why all the new entrants in the Internet game is a field that has been lost, or all players are moved only unregulated sites, sites that have no desire to ever be approved. They can never win these players back to the station. If anyone is interested in operating the games on the Internet, I’d think that would like to see a much smoother transition.” Stay tuned for further developments in what could be the most important couple of weeks in the history of online poker.

France has made great progress in their industry of online games in 2010. This year, the French government opened its doors to the regulation of online gaming, something that previously had not been done in the country. The government now moves all-in.

After the legalization of gambling online in early 2010, has the authority to regulate online gaming has rapidly trying to license the biggest game companies in the world. The last to obtain a license to operate in the country was Titan Poker.

Europe is a hotbed for some of the world's largest online gaming. Outside the U.S., Europe is deemed to be the largest gaming market in the world and France is the second largest online gaming market in Europe. The government has vertigo on the type of revenue can be generated by the tax Internet gambling.

France was under pressure the World Trade Organization to change the laws of online gambling. Unlike other countries like the United States and Portugal, France has decided to sell and to meet their EU trade agreements. When they opened the doors, outside the gambling industry came to play fast. Getting a piece of one of the largest markets in the world has become a priority.

U.S. lawmakers are now considering changing the laws on online gambling. Senator Harry Reid has just this past weekend in support of the legislation, which would make it legal to license online poker action of individual States. Condition is that the casinos and the horse could run with the following sites, but have been open for at least five years to obtain a license.

Lawmakers in New Jersey has already authorized gaming license for its online casinos in Atlantic City. The casinos would be allowed to accept clients from New Jersey and foreign countries. If they accept foreign clients in New Jersey are in violation of EU trade agreements.

New Jersey State Senate passed a bill that would normalize online poker, making it the first lawmaking body in the United States to do so. The bill passed lightly on Monday, making it by Parliament by a margin of 29-5. The bill passed as part of efforts by the Senate to help revive the game in trouble and the horse racing industry in the state. Atlantic City has experienced years of declining revenues and more bills passed specifically aimed at driving more revenue into the city in distress.

Online poker authorized by this bill would only transport capacity, which means that only New Jersey residents, not the other citizens of the United States would be eligible to play on the site or sites created by law. However, an amendment to the bill to allow players from other countries to create accounts on these sites.

Although the bill was very popular and is easily transmitted, there were groups that stood in opposition to the idea of regulating online poker in the state. Most notable has been Harrah’s Entertainment fate resolutely against the bill, despite having supported similar bills at the federal level. According to a report pokernews.com speculated Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association President Joe Brennan Jr. on what he can do to get Harrah’s on board with the legislation? “By opposing this, it makes the operations of Harrah’s, as if they want the federal bill for employment and investment to visit the headquarters in Nevada, “said Brennan. “ I think they alienated many politicians in New Jersey, many people who count.”

The legislation still has a ways to go before they come into force in New Jersey. The law must be passed by the State of New Jersey, and should therefore be enacted by Governor Chris Christie. The large victory margin in the Senate, but many fans is hoping that this bill will be enacted in the near future. “New Jersey is very serious,” said Brennan. “They want to be the capital of this industry in the United States and the resources needed to make a legitimate claim to the house for this sector in addition to being the first to enact a law.”

Australian poker robber loses plea. An Australian man who bothered and robbed an American poker competitor at the Crown Casino in Melbourne in 2008 has lost his plea and will have to serve a four-year sentence in jail. Dwayne Johnstone’s target was American poker player Jason Potter of Tulsa.

After winning the gold ring of the WSOP Circuit then, Potter had finished in 31st place in the Aussie Millions Main Event 2008. After collecting a $ 30 000 (U.S. $ 26,371) in cash and return to his hotel room, Potter was compressed from behind by Johnstone, who pulled a knife and demanded the wallet Potter. Potter met, give up his Aussie Millions score plus $ 1,075 in cash, and Johnstone and his partner, Vhyharn Arumughasamy, fled the scene.

Two law enforcement authorities later caught and sentenced. Jonhstone defense team argued in its appeal that he could not be held responsible for their actions, because the brain damage had a previous attack, and because he suffers from depression. There might be something in the defense argues – John Stone has 69 previous convictions for various crimes – but the Court of Appeal refused to shorten his sentence, and pointed out that the robbery was well planned and coordinated impulsive. John Stone to serve at least two years in prison before any possibility of parole.

The bother did not become visible to have any lasting negative impact on poker Jason Potter – in any case, seems to have pushed to play better. Since the bother in Australia, Potter made a WPT final table, finished 11th in another event of the WPT, WSOP final tables and won two tournaments of poker, including $ 5,100 No Limit Hold’em LA Poker Classic this year.

The effects of recession could be still felt, when Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. reported second quarter results.

With a hefty 42,000 rooms, the company predicts a “$5 increase in ADR on an annual basis will equate to an improvement to EBITDA of approximately $64.0 million.” For one, “we operate businesses that have inherently low variable costs such that positive change in revenues should drive relatively large improvements in EBITDA.” Increases in Average Daily Hotel Rate will “drive nearly a dollar for dollar improvement in EBITDA,” the company said.

Harrah’s average ADR was $109 in 2007, falling to $86 for the twelve months ended June 30. Another metric known as average spending per rated gaming customer trip fell from $192 in 2007 to $158 for the 12 months ended June 30.

Apollo Management LP and TPG Capital LP bought Harrah’s for $27.8 billion in 2008. During the first half of the year, revenue fell to $4.41 billion from $4.53 billion. The latest period got some help from the addition of the Planet Hollywood casino. The company posted a six-month loss of $466.1 million, compared with net income of $2.17 billion in the comparable 2009 period. Adjusted Ebitda fell to $941.5 million from $1.11 billion.

Presumably, future generations will continue to emulate “Swingers,” “The Hangover” and “Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas,” but Harrah’s is also betting that Internet gambling could provide opportunities. In the filing, Harrah’s says “a recent H2 Gaming Capital study anticipates that the global online gaming market will grow to $36 billion in revenues by 2012. We believe that the largest opportunity in online gaming in the near term is the legalization of the United States online poker market.” Harrah’s adds that it’s the “only U.S. land-based casino company to operate an online casino.”

On the financial front, the company says recent capital market transactions including debt swaps, tender offers and the issuance of new notes “have improved our liquidity and maturity profile and positioned the company well to grow and create value.” The company said “we have reduced the amount of our debt maturing through the remainder of 2010 and 2011 from $1,503.0 million to $25.0 million and the amount of our debt maturing from 2010 through 2014 from $8,757.0 million to $151.0 million.”

“With minimal near-term maturities and significant liquidity, we believe that we are well positioned to capitalize on growth opportunities and any potential rebound in the broader economy.” the company had about $1.8 billion of cash on hand at June 30, and $1.5 billion available under its revolving credit facility.

The current session of the House ends on Oct. 8, before the congressional mid-term elections in November. First, Rep. Jim McDermott’s H.R. 2268, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Tax Enforcement Act, is not likely to be marked up by the House of Representatives’ Ways and Means this fall, a spokesman for the congressman told PokerNews.com today. A “markup” is where a Congressional committee considers and makes changes to a bill before it is voted on by the committee and eventually sent on to the full House of Representatives, should it pass that committee vote.

This development comes on the heels of last week’s news, when Rep. Barney Frank, the driving force in Congress behind H.R. 2267, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act, says that the bill likely will not become law during the current session of Congress. Although the bill has already cleared his committee, the House Financial Services Committee, Frank told The Hill, a publication that follows Congress, that the bill probably will not see any action before Congressional elections in November. H.R. 2268 is a companion to H.R. 2267, as it would set up a tax framework should internet gambling and poker become regulated.

It is still possible that the bills could make progress in Congress after the November elections in a “lame-duck” session of Congress, the final session of Congress held before the newly elected members take their posts.

Also on Tuesday, eGamingReview reported that Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) currently opposes H.R. 2268. Here’s an excerpt from that story:

According to a statement released by Reid’s office to BolaVerde Media Group: “Senator Reid has long had concerns about Internet gaming. He does not support any of the existing bills and he would oppose any proposal that would put jobs in Nevada at risk.”

Reid is up for re-election in November; if the Democrats retain control of the Senate and Congress, Reid’s support for any legislation will be necessary. Some contemplate that Reid might support a bill that legalizes and regulates online poker, only, and excludes other types of online gaming.

Are you unlucky? Did you bet on the Vikings? If you thought a 41-year-old man was going to beat the new Orleans Saints then you might be interested in our NFL casino cash back deal. Between September 9 – 13, 2010, if your NFL bet dons’t win, we’ll refund your bet in casino chips up to $100. Not a bad way to start your NFL betting season, is it?

Week one of this NFL season is already getting interesting with the Saints earning a 14-9 victory against Brett Farve and the Vikings. Despite having a tough time running the field, Drew Brees finished with 237 yards and a touchdown with a defense that was able to fend off the force that is Farve, as well as Adrian Peterson and other Vikings offensive fright trains.

The win was officially secured by Pierre Thomas, who effectively burned the clock by rushing 63 of his 71 yards in the second half, making up for Garrett Hartley, who missed two field goals, including a 32-yarder that would have secured the victory earlier in the fourth quarter. Next up for these two teams – the Saints are headed to Candlestick Park for Week 2 while the Vikings will stay put hoping to rebound in a game against Miami.

Meanwhile, the Super Bowl XLV countdown heats up Sunday when the Steelers, with the suspension of Big Ben as well as the loss of Troy Polamalu to a knee injury, face the New England Patriots, whose QB Tom Brady was involved in a car accident on Wednesday. On the upside for Brady, he also secured a four-year contract extension worth $72 million.

There are big expectations for Cincinnati with Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco on the same team. Maybe you’re even thinking it’s a lock. But remember, you’re betting that these two self proclaimed kings of the world can exist on the same team. Wouldn’t a bet like that feel better if you knew you could pick your losses up with free casino chips?

With Sports Interaction’s NFL casino cash back, you might be able to turn a lost bet into a big win at the casino. Just remember, you have to have played at least $100 in the casino during the promotional period to qualify for this bonus so be sure to download the casino software for the complete Sports Interaction online casino experience.

I don’t miss many WSOP events which means I’m booked in Vegas from the end of May until the middle of July each year. I also like to play the major WPT tournaments, so that’s another twenty days per year that I’m away from home.

Add in all the made-for-television games like Poker After Dark, High Stakes Poker and The Big Game, and man, that’s a lot of poker!

There is one other event that I always try to play, the $10,000 buy-in heads-up tournament at the Los Angeles Poker Classic. What’s fun about this tourney is that it features a unique double-elimination format — lose two matches and you’re toast.

In 2008, with 110 players signed up to play, I got lucky and randomly drew a first round bye. But in the second round, I had to face the always-tough and well-respected pro Erick “E-Dog” Lindgren, that year’s WSOP Player of the Year and an all-around great guy, too.

In the second hand of our match, with the blinds at $100/$200, I limped in on the button with Q-3 offsuit. Erick raised $300 and I called.

The flop came K-7-5. Erick fired out $600. Attempting to bluff E-Dog out of the pot, I made it $2,600 to go. Didn’t work, though, he called.

Another king fell on the turn. Erick checked this time, probably wary of my raise on the flop. Continuing my bluff, I bet $1,800 and Erick called again.

The river was a ten and Erick checked. I studied for a while then decided to check, too.

Wow, good thing I didn’t try to bluff on the river as E-Dog rolled over K-10 for a big full house.

Let’s take a closer look at this hand.

I don’t mind my pre-flop call for $300. My $2,000 raise on the flop was a decent play although it certainly didn’t work out as planned. I’m pretty sure that my bluff would have done the trick if E-Dog was weak, but that just wasn’t the case.

On the turn, I like my $1,800 bluff bet. It was designed to deliver the deceptive message that I had a king and wanted a call. Also, it afforded me the opportunity to continue bluffing on the river.

I love my check on the river. I mean, c’mon, it was the only move that worked to my benefit in this hand!

E-Dog, you played the match like a true champion.

When I was down to my last $5,000, a less experienced player might have eased up, or conversely, might have played recklessly. But Erick never let me back into the match. He played fiercely until he had the victory in hand.

Of course, I didn’t make it easy for him. It’s important to play your best right up until the end because you just never know when a run of good cards will come your way.

One more tip: You’ve got to be willing to change your heads-up tactics depending on how your opponent plays his cards.

My preference is to play patiently and trap a super-aggressive opponent by letting them do the betting. And when I do catch a strong hand, I’ll make a small bet to induce a call. But if my opponent plays tight, I’ll try a few well-timed bluffs. In fact, I might bluff every single pot until he finally calls me down.

Heads-up poker requires flexibility, imagination, and well-timed aggression. Keep that in mind the next time you get to down to the final two.
