Poker is a game of skill and strategy. As you may have read in many a poker blog, poker has a bunch of variants, these variants differ from each other in terms of the distribution of cards, how they are dealt and how different hands are being formed. In some of the poker games, high as well as a low hand might win at the same time whereas in others only a higher hand will win.

Most of these games are played with a deck of 52 cards (which also a standard deck). A standard deck contains 52 cards in total with 13 cards of 4 different suits which are Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts and Spades.

The basic terms that you should know before you start to play poker are:

Small Blind: It is the forced amount that the player sitting left to the dealer has to put while participating in a game. It is half the amount of the big blind.
Big Blind: It is the forced bet posted by the player who is sitting left to the player placing the small blind. The big bind is twice the small blind and the minimum bet that everyone needs to put to play in that round.
Dealer: A dealer button represents a player who is in the dealer position; the dealer button rotates in a clockwise direction. Once a hand is completed the dealer button will change its position thus changing the big and the small blinds posted by the player.
Check: Incase there are no bets placed on the table, a player in absence of a bet may choose to pass the turn to other players by saying check or by knocking on the table twice (in terms of a live table)
Call: It is the amount that one places/ has to place to match the bet on the table and to continue to play in the particular hand.
Raise: When you increase the amount of the bet that has already been placed on the table then it is called as raise. In this case the other players need to call your amount in order to stay in the game.
Fold: If a player chooses not to continue to take part in a hand the player folds and his cards are returned to the dealer. Once the player has folded his cards he can no longer take part in the game further.
Flop: The “Flop” is the name for the first three cards dealt, face-up on the board after the first round of betting.
Turn: “Turn” is the name for the fourth card dealt, face-up on the board after the second round of betting.
River: “River” is the Fifth and the final card dealt, face-up on the board after the third round of betting.

In a game of Texas Hold’em Poker the first round of betting begins with a forced bet by two players followed by other players who have an option to call, raise or fold if they don’t feel like playing in these games. All the money from a hand goes into a common pot and once the round of betting is over the flop appears followed by two rounds of betting. After each round of betting, cards will open up at the table. After the 1st round of betting 3 cards open up which is called ‘flop’ and then one card opens up at the table called the ‘Turn’ followed by the ‘River’ in which the last card opens up at the table.

In this day and age a lot of stuff we learn is through videos. Individuals from all over the globe view videos to learn different things. A large number of enthusiasts, who want to learn lots of different things go through videos and try to learn from it. Whether it is playing a guitar that you want to learn or maybe even the procedure to format your computer hard drive, the best place to learn is through videos that are easily found on the internet. Some of us are very interested in learning the game of poker but due to a variety of reasons are not able to learn it from a poker blog or atricles. Some of us do not have time to reading extensive literature about poker or poker books etc; someone else might not find the right articles that they are looking for.

There are a lot of website on the internet which have good poker videos, these videos are uploaded to provide the players with a better way of understanding the way the game of poker is played.
Every now and then video lessons are posted by the top poker pro’s to help you better in not just understanding this game but also to raise the level of your game.

With the help of poker videos a you can directly learn from a poker pro, you can know the strategies used by them, you can take poker tips from them and if you are a good student then one day you can accompany them for a game of poker.

Some of the videos available on YouTube are very informative and helpful for people who want to learn poker.

One such video is of John Cladwell who is one of the better known people in this industry. John has a series of 8 videos through which he tries to teach you different strategies and methods through which you can benefit on a poker table.

In his first video of the series John talks about your odds and the keys to positioning on a poker table. How you can win from being at different positions at the tables, the strategies that should be implemented at those stages and the game play that should be displayed by you.

Along the same line there is such a video is posted by Daniel Negreanu that instructs you on different methods you can employ at Limit as well as a No Limit tables, but one really awesome video that I would suggest you should have a look at is the ‘bluffing’ lesson by him. A good number of us who have played poker know what bluffing is and might have even bluffed a lot of times while playing poker but the strategy of bluffing might even go haywire if you bluff the wrong player. This video teaches you about who to bluff, how and when to bluff. Daniel fairly in this video puts forth a mixed bag of players and their reactions to any bets or raises and how would they take you on in such situations.

These happen to be just a few videos among a whole lot accessible online, so if you are keen on learning and want to develop as a poker player then this is your best shot.

When I was young, my parents thought the time I spent playing video was wasted. And for the most part it was. But now the “kids” can become a legitimate way of playing career. Here are six ways to start earning money from video games …

1. Sell your gold

MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing games) like World of Warcraft, Rift, and EVE Online is based on the currency: gold, platinum, and crowns, respectively. When you kill a bad guy or complete a mission or missions, the game rewards you with a certain amount of its currency. As the game and advance your character, you must complete tasks and the enemies you face increasingly difficult – but the rewards are greater.

Yet there will always be people who want the reward without the work. And that’s where your opportunity to make a little money comes in. A simple search for something like “sell world of warcraft gold” returns millions of results.

Typical rates for selling World of Warcraft gold are between 50 cents and $1.50 for 1,000 pieces. If that sounds like a lot of gold for not a lot of money, it is. The best players, with the highest-level characters playing as efficiently as possible, might take an hour to earn it.

So while we are earning money playing a game, we’re not earning the kind of cash that can support a family. And besides, selling your in-game rewards for real world cash may get you booted from the game. (Some allow it, some don’t.) But don’t worry, because there are ways to make a lot more.

2. Get a second job (and a Second Life)

The popular virtual world Second Life is teeming with ways to earn a few real world dollars. If you’re unfamiliar with Second Life, the premise of the “game” is simple – it’s a virtual world that tries to model the real world with one notable exception: You can fly.

You can also own real estate, design clothing, open a casino, run a night club, model swimwear, or start a rock band. If you’re good enough at any of these things, you can actually make a nice bit of real world money.

Second Life minted its first millionaire in 2006 when it was announced that a woman named Anshe Chung had acquired more than $1,000,000 real dollars worth of virtual real estate. Since then, it has been revealed that several other individuals and in-game corporations have been cashing out in excess of $1 million per year. In 2010 alone, almost $119 million was traded between players.

But just like the real world, big rewards are the result of lots of hard work, talent, and a little luck. Don’t expect to become a millionaire in the virtual world overnight.

3. Start a blog or fan site

Prefer working exclusively in the real world? Start a blog or fan site with information or tips for your favorite games. Not only will you enjoy writing about something you play, you might make a few bucks by placing ads on your site (like Google AdSense). But there are also those who’ve leveraged their fandom into a career.

Just one week ago, BioWare, the developer of the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic online game, made its third fan site hire. Ken Hinxman, developer of TOR Syndicate, got a job doing web Q&A with BioWare because of his obvious love for a game that has yet to be released (and his skills at creating a community around it). It’s a real job, with real pay, from a real company, with real benefits, in the real city of Austin, Texas.

Companies like to hire people who are enthused about their products, even more so when they demonstrate serious skill doing the work to build those products. So…

4. Mod the game

If you really want to turn a video game into a career, modify it. The creator of one of my favorite Half Life 2 mods, MINERVA: Metastasis, was hired by developer Valve in 2008. His mod is free for anyone to download, and it extends the game by providing a new story, new gameplay, and new environments.

Earlier this year, another developer created a version of World of Warcraft he called World of StarCraft (a meld of Blizzard’s popular games World of Warcraft and StarCraft) and posted a video of it on YouTube. Blizzard was less than thrilled and had the video removed, but competing developer Riot Games saw the work and offered him a job.

5. Invest in virtual markets

You don’t even have to play a game to profit from it. Second Life has an official stock market dedicated to buying and selling its Linden currency, called LindeX. Prices remain fairly stable, between L$250 and L$260 per $1 USD, and with $31.5 million traded in Q1 2011, it’s a very real market.

And if you’re willing to dig a little deeper into these games, you’ll find that many have in-game auction houses where players can buy and sell the items they receive for completing tasks or vanquishing foes. The same rules as any other market apply: Buy something like “King’s Amber” when it’s low, and sell when it’s high.

6. Steal from other players

Legally isn’t the only way to make money. The uber-complicated EVE Online has one rule: There are no rules. Seriously. Deceit and treachery are part of the game, and it’s not uncommon to hear about a player who has swindled another out of a large sum of money.

In what may be the biggest blow ever virtual user named “Cally” started a bank in the game in 2006, called Eve Intergalactic Bank. The bank offers loans, interest and insurance as a real bank would. But unlike a real bank, after a few months of taking deposits attracted Cally just the money from everyone, to keep it for themselves. Supposedly he ran away with 790 000 000 000 ISK, which at the time was worth as much as $ 170,000.

Texas Hold’em Strategy for Beginners by Edward Scimia is a new poker book Kindle only offering advice and information on a wide range of poker topics. The book – a collection of essays, originally published as articles for the online poker sites – covering both cash games and poker tournaments, and contains a brief introductory chapter on the rules of Texas Hold’em for newcomers to the game.

The book covers 20 different subjects in total. The ten essays first discuss topics relevant to the strategy of poker cash games, while the last ten are designed to help players improve their performance in tournaments of Texas Hold’em poker. Topics include aggression, EV, the concept of Gap, The Bubble, stealing the blinds and go all in preflop.

While the title suggests the book is for beginners, many of the essays assume the reader has a working knowledge of Texas Hold’em. Much of the advice is designed for players that straddle the divide between beginners and intermediate or “serious” players – those who know the rules of the game, but have yet to begin serious study of the theory and practice of competitive poker.

Texas Hold’em strategy for beginners is currently for sale in the shop Amazon.com and Kindle is priced at $ 0.99. The author Edward Scimia is a freelance writer who has contributed content to many online sites. Most of this work has been in the field of casino games including Texas Hold’em, other forms of poker and the rules and strategies of other casino games.

You want to make right choices for your kids in everything concerned with them, then why not in games for your kid? Why not to choose a right game for your kids? Game tips: Games that kids play make a huge impact on their development. You might be unknown to the fact that what TV shows, movies, offline & online and games your kids watch and play has a huge impact on their growth. Watching out for your kids games & ensuring that they will grow up with a more realistic perception is good to maintain. This doesn’t mean that violent video games for your kids are bad and are completely unacceptable, but you obviously don’t want your 6 year old playing Doom 3 or Splinter Cell or something very violent & horrific in nature.

Guardians should take advantage of the ESRB rating that is printed on each game is the first step in making the right decisions, but all kids are not equal mentally or physically and it is up to parents to decide when suitable games for your kids. To help you here are a few game tips to choose a game for your kids:

-You should choose a game for your kids that match their age and skill level. If you get a reading game that is too easy, then your child will be bored and will not build any skills. If you get a game that is too hard, your child will be frustrated and will not build any skills. Each reading game should be rated for age level on the package, but if your child is struggling, you should also look at the content of the game to make sure that the skills on the game are appropriate. For instance, if your child is just learning to recognize letters, you should not get a game that works on comprehension.

- Next, choose a reading game that has more than one skill level or type of activity-a game that will grow with your child as they get new knowledge and skills. As your child gets better, it can introduce new rules and obstacles that have to be met and overcome. If there is more than one type of activity, there will be a greater level of interest.A good place to find a reading game is to look on educational sites.

- Tip to choose a study related game. You should choose from variety of Math Operation game for your kid as per his age. They are not only fun games for all kids, but also can be a useful tool for developing number sense. Practicing the role of one and zero within different math operations, understanding the order of operations, practicing the basic operations with negative numbers etc. through math games will be the right game to choose for your kids if he/she doesn’t like to do Math homework activities.

- You can also choose a game for your kids from a variety of range which are useful to develop logical thinking.
